Bloomingdale: A Big Town with a Small Town Feel

The magic of living in Bloomingdale is, in large part, the feeling of being in a small town while enjoying so many benefits of a city with proximity to Chicago. The first building in Bloomingdale appeared in the mid-19th Century and was a Baptist church. In the 1970s Bloomingdale experiences rapid growth that has made it the unique place it today. Some of the things that make Bloomindale a unique place include the OLD TOWN BREW N’ BBQ Beer Festival!!!, Septemberfest, and great dining and shopping.

What to do with Hazardous Waste

When most people rent a dumpster bin, it is easy to feel as though anything can go into it; however, some items are dangerous if placed in dumpster bins or garage. If these items are found in your waste, fines and penalties may follow. Additionally, allowing these items to go en route to a landfill creates a risk to the environment, public health, and even the safety of sanitation workers. The most notable of these are hazardous waste items, which includes things like:

  • Auto fluids (oil, gasoline, and antifreeze)
  • Automotive, marine, and sump pump batteries.
  • Fire extinguishers. flammables (including gasoline, oil, lighter fluid, kerosene, and rubbing alcohol, etc.)
  • Household cleaners, drain openers and pool chemicals and hobby chemicals.
  • Mercury-containing items and thermostats.
  • Oil-based paints, wood stains, varnishes and solvents
  • Poisons, pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers.
  • Propane tanks and aerosol cans.
  • Asbestos materials (must fit into a fifty-five-gallon drum up to fifty lbs).
  • Fluorescent light bulbs/tubes and CFLs (sealed, unbroken only).

Residents and small businesses are free to dispose of their Household Hazardous waste materials at an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) licensed regional facility. The closest such site can be found at the Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 156 Fort Hill Drive in Naperville. The Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open every Saturday and Sunday, (with the exception of holidays) from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon.

Items that are NOT ACCEPTED include:

  • Any compressed gas that is not propane.
  • Ammunition.
  • electronics (which can be taken to electronic waste recycling centers).
  • Latex paint (instead, you may place sand or kitty litter into paint until it is hardened and then, once dried, these cans may be placed in the trash.
  • Sharps (needles).
  • Radioactive materials.
  • Smoke detectors.
  • Tires for vehicles.
Recycling Electronics

If you are cleaning a home or office, you may find many electronic items. In today’s world, we are upgrading electronics more and more. As a result, the State of Illinois has banned these items from landfills (which also means they are banned from household garbage and dumpster bins). But do not worry, as Easy Dumpster Rental is always available to help you navigate you through your project. There are several locations for ElectronicsRecycling that will accept your electronics waste, including:

  • Village of Burr Ridge: Public Works Facility is located at 451 Commerce Street and is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • City of Naperville: Environmental Collection Campus located at 156 Fort Hill Drive; Mon – Fri; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
