Solid Waste And Environmentalism in Solana Beach

Living in a beautiful city also means keep in the city beautiful. The Solana Beach Environmental Services Division works to spend taxpayer money on a variety of environmental programs designed to handle solid waste and recycling. Some of these initiatives include the following:

  • Recycling on the go: The City of Solana Beach has several public recycling containers that are located at City parks as well as beach access points to incentivize recycling even when we were on the go. They are now over twenty-five containers located throughout the City that except both trash and recycling.
  • Better handling of organic waste:  in addition to recycling and things like construction and demolition debris and recycling, it is also important to handle organic waste in an environmental manner. But what exactly is organic waste? Organic waste includes things like food waste from a kitchen, green waste, landscaping waste, and pruning waste that results from tending to private and public green spaces, non-hazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper that tends to be mixed in with food waste. In 2014, the State of California adopted Assembly Bill 1826, which requires all businesses to recycle organic waste materials in an effort to reach goals of diverting waste from landfills as well as state sanction goals of greenhouse emissions reductions.
Environmental Processing of  Construction and Demolition Debris

We often see a house being demolished or even a new building producing a great deal of construction and demolition debris. And when you rent a great Easy Dumpster Rental rolling container, you may find yourself craving a lot of waste working on the roofing project, building a new home or office, or renovating an existing facility. So what happens to all that waste?

Solana Beach has a program to deal with construction and demolition debris under the recycling program at the Public Works Yard. This program collects and recycles construction and demolition debris including asphalt, concrete, steel, metal, plastic, glass, aluminum, and green waste (or landscaping waste) that are generated from building and demolition projects undertaken by the City or public projects. the program boasts that it has reduced the waste produced by City facilities and operations.

In addition to controlling public demolition and construction projects, the City recently adopted a Construction and Demolition Recycling Ordinance that regulates the private sector as well. The ordinance requires that all demolition and construction projects that are valued at over one hundred thousand dollars apply for a permit that, in turn, requires permit holders for projects over one hundred thousand dollars in value to recycle at least fifty percent of debris. To get a demolition or building permit, you must first submit a Waste Management Plan (WMP). For more information and permitting or construction and demolition environmental regulations and plans, please contact the environmental services division at City Hall 635 South HWY 101 in Solana Beach.

The Seaside Community of Solana Beach

Investing in your home or business can be a difficult choice to make. Some communities are big and promise growth just by their sheer size and magnitude. But other communities are like gems hidden away that can pay off big with the right investment. Solana Beach is such a gem. Solana Beach is a seaside community of about fifteen thousand people that is nestled along the northern coast of San Diego County and is approximately thirty minutes from downtown San Diego. The City is home to a train station that serves both Amtrak and the Coaster, one of only three in San Diego County.

Life in Solana Beach is unbeatable. The temperature is, on average, sixty-two degrees in winter and seventy-two degrees in the summer. And the city center is beautiful to walk through.  The Cedros Design District on Cedros Avenue, for example, offers eighty-five different art galleries, boutiques, other small shops, and cafes and there is a farmer’s market that emerges every Sunday throughout the year and a small club where you can hear live music.

It’s that easy!
