Crestview is the administrative center of Okaloosa County located in the Panhandle of Florida. The city has over twenty-thousand residents, but the growth of Crestview largely stemmed from the expansion of the railroad. The Environmental Services is a division of Public Works, which consists of the several departments including:

• The Department of Solid Waste.

These departments oversee the following areas:

• Cleaning contamination in solid waste landfills.

Waste Disposal

Yard waste: Yard waste is defined by the County as refuse generated by landscaping such as grass, shrubbery clippings and tree branches (six feet or less in length and four inches in diameter), dry leafs and palm fronds, bushes and shrubs, fruits that has fallen from trees, and other yard generated waste that is generated from the original site (not moved from another site).
(NOT included in the category of yard waste are large tree branches, treated wood, and waste the results from tree removals, land clearings or development, building demolition, construction, renovations, or home improvements, or tree surgeon activities).
Yard waste should be placed by the resident’s curb away from obstructions such as mailboxes, telephone poles, cars and other objects that may interfere with the collection machinery.

Bulk Waste

Bulk waste refers to large items that cannot be received with normal curbside garbage collection (up to four cubic yards) and, in accordance with the County, can include:

• Household furniture.
• Treated lumber.
• E-waste (electronic waste).
• Bicycles.
• Push lawn mowers (note: gas and oil must be removed).
• Up to four automotive tires with rims with twenty-five-inch diameters or less

The following are NOT appropriate for curbside garbage collection:

• NOT included: Tires from commercial or industrial vehicles and heavy equipment.
• NOT included: Refuse from tree removal and land clearings and development.
• NOT included: Special waste (see below).

Special waste

Special waste cannot be deposed of through Okaloosa County curbside pickup, and instead must be taken to

1. South Okaloosa County Transfer Station located at 630 Transit Way, FWB.
2. Baker Landfill located at 1415 Charlie Day Rd., Baker.

Most items can be disposed of free of charge and include large tires, appliances, construction debris, and used oil.
Large tires may be disposed of free of charge for residents only (not businesses) up to five tires for every household each month at the South Okaloosa County Transfer Station and the Baker Landfill
Appliances, which are also referred to as white goods, can be disposed of free of charge (limit of five appliances per resident per month) at the South Okaloosa Counter Transfer Station and the Baker Landfill.
For construction debris, call 682-0911 or 682-6611 to find an appropriate landfill.
Used oil can be disposed of free of charge for Crestview residents, but must be dropped at one of the following:

• Okaloosa County Recycling Office.
• Okaloosa County Environmental Services.
• The City of Niceville (for residents only).
• Super Lube.
• Webb’s Transmissions.
• Time Saver Oil & Lube.
• Pennzoil.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste can be dangerous to the environment and to public health. Therefore, the County of Okaloosa seeks to divert these substances from landfills the County accepts many household hazardous waste substances to recycle or dispose of safely. In Crestview, there is a free drop-off location at 1759 S. Ferdon Boulevard where residents can deposit hazardous waste free of charge. Some of the substances that may be dropped off at the Crestview location include:
