Winter Springs, Florida

Winter Springs is located in Seminole County. The history of the City of Winter Springs parallels Florida’s history of Spanish rule from 1513 to 1773, after which it became a British colony from until 1783, when it to Spanish control, and then eventually came under the control of the United States in 1821. As a part of the United States, what would become Winter Springs was land held by Moses Levy, a New York businessman, who secured territory through a system of land grants under the Spanish government. Some of these lands were also attained by Henry Gee, after which Gee Hammock and Gee Creek are named. It was not until 1972 the City changed its name to Winter Springs. The local government of Winter Springs has sought to capture Florida’s old historic ambiance and has since expanded to over thirty thousand residents as of 2010.

Environment and The Parks of Winter Springs

Winter Springs has nine parks that serve to retain the natural environment and green spaces of Florida and provide a natural habitat for residents and visitor to enjoy and appreciate. Although the City is currently developing at a fast rate, one hundred and seventy-five of its three hundred and fifty acres designated for development are considered to be environmentally sensitive.

  • Central Winds Park. Central Winds Park an advanced sporting reservoir with baseball and softball fields, volleyball courts for sporting activities and pavilions, picnic areas, a playground for residents and visitors to bring their children. There is also a nature trail and even a dog park. The Central Winds Park is located at 1000 Central Winds Drive.
  • Bear Creek Nature Trail offers a number of euphoric nature areas that parallel Bear Creek and has two small bridges and picnic tables that many residents and visitors enjoy for lunch. Bear Creek Nature Trail is located at 1555 Winter Springs Boulevard.
  • Sunshine Park provides areas for basketball, volleyball, and softball and picnic areas used mostly by a nearby neighborhood. There is also a senior center with a therapy pool. Sunshine Park is located at 400 N. Edgemon Avenue.
  • Trotwood Park is another neighborhood park that offers tennis, basketball, soccer, and softball amenities and is located at 701 Northern Way & 1224 Trotwood Boulevard.
  • Sam Smith Memorial Park, located on Winter Springs Boulevard, offers a large pavilion with amenities to grill and is often utilized for events and family gatherings.
  • Moss Park offers basketball courts, a playground for children, and a modest picnic shelter, and is located at 314 S. Moss Road.
  • Fruitwood Park is located on Fruitwood Avenue and has a small park with swings.
  • Ranchlands Park has a volleyball court, a pit to play horseshoes, and a barbeque pit under a picnic shelter that is if often use for family gathering and other events. Visitors can find Fruitwood Part at 191 E. Tradewinds Road.
  • Torcaso Park offers residents and visitors a place to play basketball (two counts with nightlights), soccer, and football, and a fishing pier. There is also a playground and splash water fountain for children. Torcaso Park is located at 104 N. Moss Road.
  • Winding Hollow Park, located on Winding Hollow Boulevard, offers a playground and pavilions and grills for events.
