When you rent an Easy Dumpster Rental Container for any project, big or small, remember, there are certain things I cannot go into a dumpster container. Most importantly, household hazardous waste is banned from your trash bins and your dumpster container. Household hazardous waste includes materials that are dangerous to public health, the environment, and even sanitation workers. Because of this, you must take your household hazardous waste to a special facility for processing.
To get rid of household hazardous waste try the household hazardous waste facility at the Johnson County Landfill at 17955 Holiday Drive in Shawnee. The Johnson County Landfill is open on weekdays from seven in the morning until five in the evening and on Saturday from seven in the morning until three in the afternoon (note: the facility is closed on Sundays) and has a household hazardous waste facility in which residents can safely dispose of their old or unwanted household hazardous waste. These things can include things like:
- Latex and oil-based paints.
- Pool chemicals and photo chemicals.
- Automotive fluids such as brake fluid, antifreeze, motor oil, and gasoline (note: do not mix with other automotive fluids other than two-cycle oil).
- Adhesives, aerosols, and arts and crafts materials.
- Lead-acid, rechargeable, and alkaline batteries.
- Cleaning products and cooking oil.
- Fluorescent light bulbs and tubes (Pack separate from other items to avoid breaking).
- Lawn, garden chemicals, solvents, paint thinner, acetone, kerosene, and wood preservatives.
- Tires (note: there is a limit of just four per month per household).
- Propane cylinders.
