Recycling, Zero Waste, and Awesome Facts About Athens, OH
Athens is home to the great school, Ohio University. The city is situated on the Hocking River in one of the most beautiful places in Ohio. European settlers began arriving in the 1790s and the town was incorporated in 1811. The city itself has a population of 25,000 residents plus the 36,000 students enrolled at OU. Ohio University is the largest employer. Other businesses of note include followed the Quidel Corporation and Fastenal. The Athens-Hocking Recycling Centers is contracted out by the city of Athens. It provides weekly recycling pick up services to all homes and businesses in Athens. Materials that can be recycled include metal cans, catalogs, paperboard, and scrap aluminum.
There is no need to sort recyclables and they must be unbagged. Materials that cannot be placed in the bin at curbside can be taken to the abovementioned facility.

Is It Permissible To Place A Rolloff in The Street?
The street is a great location to place a dumpster. But you may need a permit so first check with your Account Manager before you take any action. We will check out the permitting process for you in Athens.
If you just place the front load unit on the street without a permit and the city requires one, you could get a fine. Play it safe we don’t want you to have an unnecessary fine. So, talk to us first. However, if you are putting the container on your own property you do not need a permit.
Do I Need To Be Present When the Dumpster Is Delivered In Marietta?
Yes and No. We would like you there just in case there was some miscommunication on the layout of your property. Perhaps an impeded wasn’t mentioned which makes it impossible to put the bin right where you wanted it. Our main concern is that the rolloff is placed right where you want it.
With that said, our haulers are pretty good at finding a suitable location, and of course, they will contact you before an alternative place is decided on. So, when speaking with your Sales Rep make sure you give a clear picture of your property.
