Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste in Lyndhurst

The city offers a great recycling program, and all residents are encouraged to do their part in helping the town remain green and litter free. All residents are given a wheeled container for their recyclables. Since the recycling program began in 2008, the recycling tonnage has increased over 35%.

Lyndhurst promotes single stream recycling. This process makes it easier for the resident to recycle because all of the separations is done at the recycling facility. Each week a recycling truck will come down your street and all you have to do is make sure your bin is at the curb.

You can put the following items into your container.

  • Aluminum Cans
  • Foil
  • Aerosol cans
  • Glass jars
  • Tin cans

Do not under any circun=mstances put the following into your recycling bins.

  • Clothes hangers
  • Plastic bags
  • Motor oil bottles
  • Plastic Pails
  • Deli containers

The Recycling Department from time to time surveys looking for items that should not be recycled and has found residents putting pane glass, small appliances, styrofoam into their recycling carts. None of these items are acceptable and it just gums up the works and cost the city more money to separate these forbidden items. To discover more about recycling in Lyndhurst go to the City Hall Recycling page.
