Recycling in Easley

When you rent a great Easy Dumpster Rental rolling container, it is not required that you recycle because recycling is removed from your dumpster during the sorting process that takes place after your rental. Despite this, it can be a great idea to separate your recycling.

Separating your recycling makes sure that these items do not get overlooked and end up in a dumpster bin. But this process of recycling also saves space in your bin for more expensive forms of waste like roofing materials, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, and municipal waste.

But what if you have too many items for the regular recycling methods? Fortunately, there are resources through which you can bring in your recycling yourself. The City of Easley, for example, is putting a drop-off facility on West A Avenue behind the City Hall building where residents can bring their recycling. The following items may be taken to the Easley drop-off sites:

  • Empty and rinsed plastics.
  • The glass includes brown, clear, and other (i.e., third group “colored” glass).
  • Aluminum cans and steel cans.
  • Newspapers, magazines, and office paper.
  • Empty and broken-down cardboard boxes.

The hours of the Easley courtesy recycling station are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from seven-thirty in the morning until seven-twenty in the evening.
In addition to the Downtown Center, Easley residents may also use the following centers.

  • The Pope Field Road Center is at 801 Pope Field Road in Easley.
  • The Best Pac facility is located at 2630 Farr’s Bridge Road in Easley.
  • The Willow Springs facility is located at 127 Willow Springs Road in Six Mile.
  • North Old Pendleton recycling station is located at 1151 North Old Pendleton Road in Liberty.
  • The Chastain Road recycling station is located at 600 in Chastain.
  • The Dacusville Site at 190 Raxter Drive in Easley.
  • The Table Rock Site on Back Park Road in Pickens.
  • The Midway Site on highway 178 in Pickens.
  • The Pickens County Landfill also accepts recycling and is located at 2043 Old Liberty Road in Liberty.
What about items that are not accepted at the Pickens County Recycling Sites?

You may find that you have produced waste that is not accepted in your dumpster bin, your trash, and recycling centers. In some cases, these items can be taken to the Pickens County Landfill, while others can be processed through the local Solid Waste Department or state Departments of Health. As follows is a list of special waste and relevant disposal instructions.

  • Chemicals, such as pesticides, brake fluid, and other chemicals, require special processing that can be arranged through the  South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
  • Dead animals are not accepted at convenience centers but may be taken in plastic bags to the Pickens County Landfill. There is no charge for disposal.
  • Large loads of brush that are more than one wheelbarrow in volume should be taken to the landfill for free disposal.
  • Shingles from roofing projects in a quantity of more than one wheelbarrow load must be taken to the landfill (note: there is a fee of $47 per ton for disposal).
  • Partially burned trash is not accepted at recycling stations or landfill because it is not legal to burn trash in South Carolina.
  • If you have large tires from trucks or large tractors, you should take them to the landfill, where they can be processed for about $80.
  • Cross ties and creosote-treated lumber can be processed at the Pickens County Landfill for a fee of about $47 per ton.
  • Asbestos is not accepted in any form due to its hazardous nature. If you have asbestos, please contact the Pickens Solid Waste Department at 864-859-3492.
  • If you have excess waste that amounts to a trailer load of over ten feet, an enclosed trailer, a box truck, or a contractor vehicle, you are required to dispose of waste at the landfill.
