Some Things To Remember Concerning Waste Collection

Every city and county has established rules on how you should properly place your bins, what time, what day, and so forth. Harris County is no different in the regard. It is recommended that you set your carts at least 3 feet apart on the tree lawn. Grass clippings, leaves, and small twigs must be placed in approved bags. Bags must be placed 3 feet from the garbage cart. Bags cannot weigh over 50 pounds.
Branches less than 4 feet long must be bundled. Lumber and treated wood will not be accepted. And ditto for shingles, plaster, and concrete. Other restrictions include no more than 8 cubic yards of materials, building materials from residents must not exceed 4 cubic yards of the 8 cubic yards that are in the total allowable.
If you need another bin contact the Solid Waste Department and for a small fee you can get another. Make sure you have your trash at the curb between 6 pm and 7 am. Containers must be removed from the street by 1 pm. It is forbidden to put the following into a garbage container: household chemicals, yard trimmings, hot ash, and dead animals.
The city has a Tree Waste and Junk Waste Recycling Program. It does accept tree waste and junk waste. Tree waste that is accepted includes tree limbs, stumps, and branches. Tree waste is picked up on odd months. The Junk Waste program accepts furniture, white goods, and any bulky materials.
The Junk Waste is picked up on even months. Waste from contractors will not be picked up. Contractors are responsible for removing their own debris. There are 6 Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Centers for your convenience. Please follow this link for addresses.
