Where to Take Excess Waste?

If you have recycling, electronic waste, hazardous waste, or even excess waste, where do you take it? Santa Fe County offers eight solid waste transfer stations, or convince centers, around the county. For example:

• Santa Fe County Solid Waste & Recycling Division operates seven solid waste transfer stations around the County: Eldorado, Jacona, La Cienega, Nambe, San Marcos, Stanley, and Tesuque. Most of these centers offer recycling and trash disposal and transfer stations will even accept large appliances, yard waste, motor oil, and hazardous waste.

Most facilities accept tires and offer recycling collection and trash disposal.  A few transfer stations accept large appliances, green waste, and motor oil for recycling, but check to see which ones accept it first. No county centers take Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Please take to BuRRT (see the top of this page).

• 4009 Lucia Lane just off of Airport road behind the old McDonald’s.
• 2950 Agua Fria Street by the local fire station.

Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station

Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT) is Santa Fe’s comprehensive center for safe and proper disposal of recycling, yard waste, electronic waste, household hazardous waste (HHW), and municipal waste (or household trash). The center is conveniently located at the:

• 2600 Buckman Road in Santa Fe, NM 87507.
• Open Monday to Sunday 8 am to 4:45 pm.
• Call (505) 424-1850 ext. 400.
• Commercial dumping on approval.
• There are no self-dumping vehicle trailers allowed.

Keep Santa Fe Beautiful

Santa Fe is a beautiful community in a city that reaches back in history for more than four hundred years. Today, it offers incredible historical sites, museums, and restaurants with incredible cuisine. Santa Fe is also known for its incredible arts scene and is the home of a plethora of museums.

Go Green with Your Next Blue Easy Dumpster Rental Bin

But many of our clients ask us how they can minimize their environmental footprint when renting a bin. We often advise three things:

• First, make sure that you never let hazardous waste of any kind or electrical waste get into your dumpster bin. These items must be separated and processed by specialists.
• Second, You may want to separate your recycling and take these items to be processed separately. While there are methods to separate your waste at disposal facilities, there is no better guarantee that your recyclables do not get into a landfill than by removing them beforehand. Additionally, recycling is a process that is free while most other types of waste cost money.
• Finally, you might want to consider a single-use dumpster bin that uses just one type of waste. Examples include things like yard waste (if you are primarily landscaping) or construction and demolition debris if you are building or renovating.
