Calumet City or “Cal City” Interesting Facts and Solid Waste
Calumet City in Illinois is often referred to as Cal City for short. The City is located on the Illinois-Indiana border and has a population that is approaching forty thousand inhabitants. In 2010, as a part of the nearly one trillion dollar stimulus project under then-President Barak Hussein Obama, Cook Country received twelve million and six hundred thousand dollars to distribute in Cook County on projects related to energy efficiency through the Cook County Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). Some of Program’s showcased projects include:

- LARC: The LARC is a Cook County charity that has helped adults with developmental disabilities since 1956. The EECBG program offered the nonprofit a new energy efficient heating and air conditioning system for their lunchroom.
- Rolling Meadows Community Center: The Rolling Meadows Community Center was also targeted by the EECBG Program and received an upgrade over two hundred and fifty single pane windows to double pane windows with a special glaze.
- SHORE: SHORE is dedicated to the assistance of developmentally challenged individuals, and was supported by the EECBG program by building new rooftop areas for HVAC units and the installation of two new units which, of course, were more efficient than the previous models.
- Turnstone Development: Turnstone development is a senior living facility that has four large building and seventy villas. The EECProgramaom installed a 175kW bio-compatible diesel blend generator for the common areas of the larger building and will also be a backup for pumps and elevators in the case of a power outage.
