The city of Westlake as you might have guessed sits 10 miles west of Cleveland. The current population is 33,000 residents. The town was settled in 1810. Originally the city was named Dover Township but was renamed Westlake in 1940. The City of Westlake provides weekly recycling pickup services and all recyclables must be on the tree lawn by 6 am on the pickup day. If you are putting out bags and/or other containers the night before they must be positioned in such a way that they cannot be seen from the street.
The town requires that all mattresses, upholstered furniture, and other bulky items be wrapped in plastic. When you are putting out brush please be mindful of the following rules. Bundle weight can’t exceed 50 pounds, they must no larger than 2 foot by 4 foot, and branches cannot exceed four feet in length. All the above must be secured by rope or nylon. The town will also pick up all Christmas trees, lights, decorations, and other manmade ornaments. It is a good idea to go over to the Service Center at 741 Bassett Road to pick up some recycling stickers to place on all of your recyclables. The city does provide each home with an 18-gallon bin for recycling.

All recycling and trash go to the Resource Recovery Complex in Oberlin. This is a single-stream recycling facility occupying over 75,000 square feet. It has the capability of recycling thirty-five tons of recyclables per hour. The complex also has the ability to capture methane gas, which then burned to produce heat, and the heat is captured to produce electricity. Currently, over 18,000 residences are receiving power for this facility.
