The city of Kirtland was named after Turhand Kirtland, a Revolutionary War hero and the first Judge in the area. Even though there were quite a few people in the vicinity, the town wasn’t settled until 1811. The Latter Day Saints had their headquarters here until they moved out west to Utah. The city of Kirtland provides both weekly trash and recycling pick up. The city, through its hauler, provides free pick up of bulk rubbish all year round. Contact your hauler for more information. The hauler for the city insists that all solid waste must be in green bags. They can be bought at the Kirtland City Hall or the Kirtland Community Center.
