Don’t Forget Your Permit

• The demolition of an existing structure requires permitting.
• Fences for your home, although seemingly simple, require permitting.
• Putting on a garage will require a permit, but don’t forget to get permits for a carpark or even a shed.
• Interior maintenance, such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work generally need permits.
• Roofing and siding work on your home or business.
• Signs always require permitting.
• That new swimming pool or spa is great for summer, but likely also need permitting before you build.

Some home repairs and improvements also require inspections by the City Building Department which should be scheduled at least twenty four hours in advance. Some of these areas of improvement include:

• Plumbing projects must be inspected before you cover up the area that was altered.
• Any electrical work or plumbing project be inspected before replacing the walls and/or flooring.
• If you are altering the foundation of a building please get an inspection before any backfill on the footing.
• If you are finishing a project, don’t forget to get a final inspection after all construction is complete but before anyone occupies the structure.
